Several weeks ago I mentioned Pin-It Maps as a fun new hands-on way to learn geography. Not only have we enjoyed the continent and country maps, but we’ve also been learning geography terms using the Land and Water Forms Pin Map.
With 48 different flags, the Land and Water Forms Map has been such a fantastic way for us to learn geography vocabulary! We’ve explored the difference between an alpine glacier and a piedmont glacier, and the difference between a peninsula and a cape. The visual representation of each term has been super helpful in making these abstract concepts concrete! This pin map has introduced us to several geography terms – and provided a means for practicing them until we have mastered the vocabulary. (Have I mentioned that in Challenge A students memorize over 100 geography terms? I only wish we had a pin map for all those terms!)
Of course I love that this also ties in with some of our science memory work this semester. 🙂
We can even play games with the Pin-It Map sets (both the Land & Water Forms map and the individual continent/country maps) using the FREE control cards available for download on the Pin-It Maps Free Teaching Resources Page.
