American History Timeline Figures & Timeline Book

I receive commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Please see our full disclosure policy for more details. Thank you for supporting Half-a-Hundred Acre Wood through your purchases.

Did you know…

  • the year Daniel Boone blazed a trail over the Cumberland Gap is the same year the American Revolution started?
  • the Oatman girls were enslaved by the Yavapai at about the same time that Harriet Tubman escaped slavery and started working on the Underground Railroad?
  • the First Great Awakening was underway when Benjamin Franklin started publishing Poor Richard’s Almanac?

Keeping a timeline of historical people and events has helped our family “picture” history as a whole. It is through the keeping of a timeline we’re able to better comprehend historical events in relation to each other and gain a broader view of history across the world and through the centuries.

It helps us answer common topic questions such as “When did this event happen? Who was serving as U.S. President? What else was going on in other parts of the country/world at this time?” and “What happened before or after this event? Did an event that happened previously lead to this event?”

There are some incredible timeline resources available by gifted artists and historians, but our family needed a concise set of timeline figures for our history studies this year. If you’re studying American history, we’ve compiled a set of American history timeline figures that provide an overview of U.S. history from the early Native Americans through the present day, featuring 72 people and events from U.S. History along with the 45 U.S. Presidents, for a total of 117 timeline figures. This set corresponds to events studied in many history curricula, including Mission: Lasting Liberty.

Timeline Notebook

We’ve also compiled a record of time which will provide you with a visual representation of events and people across the centuries. While we’ve offered other timeline notebooks for free, this timeline notebook was designed as a result of features we found helpful which were missing in other versions.

This timeline notebook includes the following:

  • Labeled pages for 4250 BC to AD 2035 in landscape or portrait format
  • Unlabeled pages before 4250 BC for customization of prehistoric events
  • Faint guidelines for placement of figures, sketches, or writing
  • Every other tick mark labeled to avoid confusion about spacing of years
  • Instructions for expanding the timeline if needed

The timeline is divided into time periods as follows:

  • Before 4250 BC: User’s choice. Label as needed or desired.
  • 4250 BC – 1500 BC: 500 years per page (with tick marks in 50 year increments)
  • 1500 BC – 750 BC: 250 years per page (with tick marks in 25 year increments)
  • 750 BC – AD 1750: 50 years per page (with tick marks in 5 year increments)
  • AD 1750 – AD 2035: 10 years per page (with tick marks in 1 year increments)

The timeline notebook is available in either landscape or portrait layout.
